Inland Skipper
Inland Skipper

The perfect blend of adventure, activity, and drive
Whether on a cargo ship transporting dry or liquid goods across Europe, accompanying guests to Germany’s most beautiful cities, or being responsible for the country’s waterways – the inland skipper profession offers you diverse opportunities.
It is important that you are a team player, have a technical interest, and are willing to help out in any weather. For the training, you do not need a
specific school diploma; instead, technical interest, a sense of responsibility, physical fitness, and the willingness to learn new things are what count.
And even if terms like oak, splice, and frames are still unfamiliar to you: Don’t worry, the combination of practical on-board training and school-based qualification at Schiffer-Berufskolleg RHEIN will optimally prepare you for your successful professional qualification. All relevant areas of your future work are covered: You will gain knowledge about European waterways, learn how a ship’s engine works, and practice how to rescue injured people or how to act in case of a fire. Driving training on the school’s own driving and radar simulator is also part of our standard program.
What’s next?
After successfully completing your training, many exciting further education opportunities within and outside inland shipping will be open to you.
